MEDIA RELEASE- For Immediate Release, November 3

THE FLY DESTROYS AVALON

Ian ‘The Fly’ Lewis showed how determined he is for a good season after his brand new Adtrans, Camden Neon Signs J&J Auto racing car set Avalon Raceway on fire on the weekend.

Lewis secured a place in the top six-pole shootout after two storming drives in the earlier heat races, recording a third and first place. The best was yet to come from ‘The Fly’ though, who took away Max Dumesny’s lap record of 11.88 seconds down to 11.80 seconds.

“The lap actually felt slow and I had no idea I had beaten the time. So hopefully I can experience a few more of these slow laps in the coming races,” joked Lewis.

Lining up first in the A-Main, ‘The Fly’ pulled a wheel stand at the start with the car getting up on its rear wheels. Looking spectacular for the fans it unfortunately dropped Lewis back into third position.

Lewis remained untroubled in third place for sometime, until he hit turns one and two and caught a rut in the track, sending the car on to two wheels. Lewis immediately dived infield suspecting a broken shock absorber however then returned to the track after the problem rectified itself.

“When I caught the rut a huge bit of clay got stuck under the front suspension and I thought I had a broken shock absorber however it dropped out and the car felt normal again and luckily I continued.”

From there ‘The Fly’ showed the field the fastest way around Avalon and worked his way into first past Matthew Reed to win by 3.4 seconds at the end of the 25 lap event.

“What a way to start the season. We had a few minor issues with the car but the outright speed was there and everything went our way in the end. We’re definitely positive heading into the coming races of a strong showing.”

The team experienced minor troubles with the engine not heating up enough however a quick call to Adelaide based Peter Morris who operates Maxwill Engines offered a quick fix solution.

“One of our crew will be going to Adelaide on Thursday to catch up with Peter so we can get the issue sorted out early on before the Sprintcar Masters begins on Saturday,” explained team owner Dave Challons.

Lewis was also quick to praise the differences in his new J&J over last seasons car.

“The 2005 J&J car is a lot more forgiving then last years, obviously we had it setup right for Avalon, but if we can keep on top of it like the early signs it’s showing now, hopefully some more results like this are on the way,” said Lewis.

This weekend the team heads to Speedway City just outside of Adelaide for the running of the Sprintcar Masters.

Ian Lewis Racing is sponsored by Adtrans Truck Centre, Camden Neon Signs, J&J Auto Racing, Elf Race Fuels Australia, Cascade, Panna Cranes, The Metric Men and Transport Equipment Hire.
