THE FLY HEADS TO WSS WITH A PODIUM
Ian ‘The
Fly’ Lewis continues to run at the front throughout Victoria,
with his second podium of the season recorded at Warrnambool’s
Premier Speedway last weekend.
The Adtrans, Camden Neon Signs,
J&J Auto Racing car continued like it has all season by being
one of the front-runners at round two of the Eureka Garages and Sheds
series.
Lewis was set to contest two ten
lap heat races starting from ninth and second respectively. The car
was brilliant and secured fourth and a win, locking ‘The Fly’
into the illustrious top six.
Unfortunately for Lewis due to
time constraints on the Premier Speedway facility the usual top six-time
trial session was cancelled and ‘The Fly’ would line up
out of sixth in the A-Main.
“Having no time trial session
really hurt our starting position in the feature. The car was obviously
quick and I’m fairly sure we could have moved up a few positions
at least,” explained Lewis.
A slick track faced competitors
in the twenty-five lap feature race, making passing difficult and
with Lewis feeling he had a faster car compared to the ones ahead,
he had a difficult time getting to the front.
The start went well for ‘The
Fly’ who remained in close contact with the leaders, sitting
in fifth behind Parramatta City Raceway regular Troy Little on the
high Warrnambool turns.
With passing minimal it took lapped
traffic to knock John Vogels behind Lewis who moved into third after
earlier passing Little.
“Once the initial start was
over and positions relatively sorted with cars running similar times
on the slick track, it was a just a case of waiting for people to
make mistakes or run into trouble ahead, which happened.
”This was Lewis’ second
podium of the short season so far and as a result has him leading
the Eureka Garages and Sheds series with an 18 point lead over Allan
Barlee.
The Camden Neon Signs Racing team
can now look forward to a welcome return to Avalon Raceway this weekend
where Lewis set a new lap record only a month ago. While the regular
drivers are into their fifth round of World Series Sprintcars it will
be Lewis’ first run with the current series since his last race
in January.
“We ran World Series for
a couple of seasons, it’s incredibly tough but we are probably
better prepared then we have ever been coming into this round at Avalon.
We know the new car is quick, we just have to make sure we continue
that.”
